Aims & Objectives

Sonic Postcards

Project Aims

For Pupils to:

  • Gain new insight into their environment and the environments of others
  • Develop new skills in music-making with technology
  • Develop their personal communication skills both with their peers and with adults other than teachers
For Teachers to:
  • Integrate their teaching of music and ICT into other curriculum subjects such as Geography, English, History, Art, Citizenship etc
  • Achieve the specific skills needed to approach classroom music-making using technology and the confidence to use these skills
  • Work with Sonic Arts Network to ensure e-learning facilities are accessible and that they themselves are equipped with adequate training and skills to use these facilities
For Schools to:
  • Build an identity within their community and with other schools around the UK
  • Encourage and support cross-curricular teaching throughout the project
  • Discover new approaches to learning through a range of partnerships

Project Objectives


Learning outcomes for Pupils:
  • To have created a sonic postcard which represents their local area and to have exchanged this with other participating schools
  • To be capable of recording and transforming sounds using the technology available to them
  • To have expanded music technology vocabulary and listening skills
  • To have developed team work/communication skills and to be comfortable sharing information with peers and adults other than teachers
Learning outcomes for Teachers:
  • To have worked with other subject teachers or within other subject areas and to recognise the potential for cross-curricular work
  • To be capable of recording and transforming sounds using their school technology facilities
  • To have the confidence to guide students in composition using technology
  • To incorporate e-learning initiatives into their teaching
Learning outcomes for Schools:
  • To have created new working relationships with local community groups, artists and partner school(s)
  • To have brought together staff from different subject backgrounds to achieve a single creative outcome
  • To incorporate new learning approaches to teaching as a result of new partnerships, new skills, and new resources
