Explore Sonic Postcard World

Hindley Community High School

Hindley, Wigan, WN2 4LG

School Year:2005-2006
Date:22 June 2006

Facilitated by workshop leaders Ross Dalziel and David Watt, these Year 10 pupils explored Haigh Country Park to gather sounds to use in their Sonic Postcards. The pupils focused on graphically representing the recorded sounds and drew these on stickers to enable them to compose their Sonic Postcards. From these graphic scores, the pupils then translated these onto the school’s computers using free audio editing software called ‘Audacity’ to create their Sonic Postcards. Once completed, these scores were then transferred onto the coloured vinyl, which you can see in the photos. All the work is currently on display at the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh alongside the work from St Wilfrid's Primary School in Standish as part of the Audio Art Lab exhibition. It is free and runs till September 9th 2006.
