Connor Downs Primary School

Cornwall, TR27 5DH

School Year:2005-2006
Date:26 January 2006

Run in partnership with the RSPB and led by workshop leaders Sarah Owen and Tony Whitehead - with support from RSPB staff and two mentors from Hayle Community School - these Year 5/6 pupils from Connor Downs visited the nearby RSPB Hayle Estuary to explore the unique soundscape of Copperhouse Creek. Using their sound drawings as a starting point, the pupils created graphic scores using different textures like felt and feathers to describe the sounds they heard. These were then translated onto the computers to allow them to compose their Sonic Postcards. The pupils also created fantastic Sound Poems about the Estuary which can be heard below. The work was shown at a fantastic school presentation at Hayle Community School alongside work from the other three participating schools in Hayle.
