William Farr C of E School
Lincolnshire, LN2 3JBSchool Year:2004-2005
Date:19 May 2005
Led by workshop leader Duncan Chapman, the project at William Farr school in Lincolnshire was an excellent example of the blending of natural and industrial sounds. Year 9 pupils at this school created a composition which begins with the countryside sounds of birdsong and distant tractors, recorded in a field behind the school. But listen carefully and about one minute into the postcard, an entirely different sound begins to develop. A field trip to Scampton Airbase gave students the opportunity to record the Red Arrows starting their engines and taking off! The postcard really encapsulates the sounds of this area; where the subtle sounds from the rural environment are often drowned out by aeroplanes overhead!
